Harvester Defies Recession To Break Fundraising Record

November 2009

We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve raised an incredible £50,000 during our charity month this year, in spite of the current economic climate.

We would like to thank our staff and guests for raising the money for our nominated charity, Make-A-Wish Foundation® UK.

Throughout August, all of our 173 restaurants across the UK sold specially commissioned Harvester/Make-A-Wish branded trolley tokens and Chupa Chup lollipops, as well as carrying out their own fundraising events.

Special mentions must go to the following fundraisers:

• The team at the Britannia Harvester in Lancing, who raised more than £4,350
• Staff at the Hillington Harvester in Glasgow, who raised over £2000 at a Rangers’ champions league game
• Harvester managers in Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Middlesex who walked almost 15 miles
• Graeme Burton and Rob Spears from the Grays Harvester who cycled 40 miles into central London
• Donna Theobold from the Gravesend Harvester who did a wing walk, dressed in a chicken suit!
• The team in the West Midlands who took part in a 25 mile bike ride through the countryside

Harvester’s Operations Director, Steve Cash, said: “This year’s total is our highest ever, so we’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who made a donation or helped raise the money for Make-A-Wish. We are very proud to support the charity, and hope to build on this year’s success to raise an equally significant total in 2010.”

Make-A-Wish helps children and young people with life-threatening conditions by granting their magical wish. It was founded in the UK in June 1986 and, since then, has granted over 5,500 wishes.
Karen England, Make-A-Wish’s Director of Fundraising, added: “We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone at Harvester for raising such a fantastic amount for us. We have been delighted to work with Harvester to increase awareness of our work as well as raising much needed funds that will add magic to the lives of special children. Make-A-Wish is a great charity to support, whether you are an individual donor, a community group or a company like Harvester. You can see directly the real difference your donation brings to a child’s life.”
