Harvester Balloons Holiday in Denmark

January 2008

A bunch of our Harvester balloons has travelled over 560 miles to celebrate Christmas in Denmark.

The balloons, which we believe were most likely to have been released by one of our guests at the Ghillies Lair Harvester in Aberdeen, were found on December 26 by a family in Fredensborg, Denmark.

The Hartman family were celebrating Boxing Day with a party when the balloons were discovered in the back garden. Max Hartman, who informed Harvester of the discovery, said: “My father in law found the balloons in the backyard and thought that one of us had brought them to the party.

“We hadn't heard of the Harvester Pub and Grill before so we had a hunch the balloons might have been from far away so we did a little web searching. Sure enough, the only Harvesters we could find are in the UK. I’ve always wondered if lost helium balloons are ever found by others or land in far away countries.”

This is not the first time we have seen Harvester Balloons found in another country. Last year a balloon launched for our charity, Make-A-Wish Foundation UK, travelled over 1,000 miles to Bavaria in Germany.

We always provide young guests with our helium filled balloons and occasionally we release large amounts as part of official charity balloon launches, so there may be some balloons still travelling around out there.

Sean Duffy, manager at the Aberdeen Harvester, said: “I was shocked to hear that Harvester balloons from the Ghillies Lair had travelled all the way to Denmark. Initially we thought that the balloons would be from one of our charity balloon launches, but we release a completely different type of balloon to the ones which have been found.

“All we can think is that one of our young guests must have accidentally let them go after visiting the restaurant and the wind managed to blow them all the way to Denmark.”
